Why do political races tighten at the end of the campaign?

http://www.wcmhblogs.com/ohiovotes/comme鈥?/a>

Why do most polls show the candidates tied when they approach the final days of the campaign?

seems like polls tend to tighten at the very end.

why?Why do political races tighten at the end of the campaign?
I never trust "polls". The questions THEY ask, are ambiguous, and are often slanted, in such a way as to elicit a desired response. OR the interpretation of your answer is twisted into something that you NEVER SAID, or intended to say.

The media, in an effort to have "their side" come out to vote, gin up bogus numbers, so their side feels that their vote can "make the difference". Hopefully the other side will feel just as motivated.

Then there are the "undecided", also known as "the clueless", some little "hot button" in them gets "pushed", and their knee-jerk reaction is to vote, based upon some last minute B/S, rather than for an intelligent choice.
this is a very different election. obama is such a polarizing president and there is so much dislike for the democrats leadership, (pelosi, reid), that the cons came out way early and are all fired up for conservative change. well now the liberals are pulling out all their big money and they are working it hard trying to wake up their base.

that is why the poles have tightened. the liberals are waking up and joining the fight. it's too late. it will be a conservative wave but not a tidal wave. cons take the house but not the senate. it's truly a wake up call to pres obama. he needs to pull a clinton and come to the center, if he's capable of such a thing. Why do political races tighten at the end of the campaign?
First of all, polls are quite inaccurate.

Secondly, after listening to the candidates and seeing their campaign ads, most voters make up their minds at the last minute as to whom they will vote.
People don't answer the polls early on but once the voting starts they are more willing to talk. That is why you can't rely on the polls early in a race. Why do political races tighten at the end of the campaign?
What tightening? Rasmussen is reporting this is going to be 1994 for the Democrats, but worse.
Because at the end of a campaign people actually vote.
The undecideds start to decide.

Negative ads cancel each other out.
