What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?

I have always found the subject so interesting and fascinating. When I see the show "Future Weapons" on the discovery I always wonder to myself how those engineers made so far at such a young age to develop the future weapons for military use. I always wondered what you need to do. Can anyone describe what kind of qualifications and where to study at for that kind of line of work? What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons? They're just engineers. Go to an engineering school, do some internships at the defense companies, get your BSE, shop your resume around until someone hires you. Same as any other job. What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?
The Military doesn't develop their own weapons.

You get a post graduate degree in something along the lines of weapons (Electronics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, etc) and join up with a company who develops weapons.

Like Raytheon, General Dynamics, or Lockheed Martin. These are civilian companies.

As far as the people who test the weapons in the Military... you cannot join and do that, there is no MOS for that. It's either high ranking (Lt. Col and above) or just some lucky people who get to test weapons for a living that is related to their MOS.What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?1. Get an engineering degree.

2. Get hired by a defense contractorWhat qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?
You would probably need to get at least a master's degree in engineering or physics to do that kind of work. What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?Independent military weapons developers create new weapons. These are frequently done by people who hold engineering degrees. Not all of the engineers are young either. Most weapons are developed by teams of scientists and engineers each of whom specializes in a specific function of the weapon. What qualifications do you need to enter the military development for weapons?
The military will train you for whatever field they put you into. 99% of the engineering is done at the civilian companies the military buys from.

How long can the Military hold a recruit on legal hold before they have to charge the recruit with the offense?

Can anyone tell me how long the military can old a failed recruit on a military base when a supposed investigation is underway before they have to charge the recruit with a suspected offense? How long can the Military hold a recruit on legal hold before they have to charge the recruit with the offense? That will all be driven by the UCMJ... as administered by the JAG Corps... They're going to be your source for time limits, etc.How long can the Military hold a recruit on legal hold before they have to charge the recruit with the offense? It's just like it is for a civilian, no limit. A person could be on hold for a very long time while an investigation is going on. There's no time limit during the investigation phase. Once charged there's a right to a speedy trial.

How long can the Military hold a recruit on legal hold before they have to charge the recruit with the offense?Best bet is to ask for a Lawyer, either civil or through ADC(if the person is AF, ADC=Airman Defense Counsel).

Anything other than that would constitute giving 'legal advice' which I am not a lHow long can the Military hold a recruit on legal hold before they have to charge the recruit with the offense?
If he is in the Military. They can hold him as long as they deem necessary.

  • Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?

I understand the military has to "weed out" candidates who are physically, psychologically or emotionally weak, but I'm looking for a book or insight as to how military recruits are trained AND also what is the purpose of particular training exercises. I would appreciate hearing from those who've done extensive reading about military training or especially veterans who have gone through military training first hand. Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?Because war is physically and psychologically challenging! It's job training. Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?
The techniques %26amp; tactics used depends on what type of mission you're training for. There are a dozen ways to do everything, just like a mechanic has 10 tools in his box that all do the same thing. The more tools you have available, the more sucessful you'll be. You can IM me %26amp; we can get into more specifics about my experiences. Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?disciplin.....its that simple
It has to be to tough. The first time you get shot at you will fall back on your training. Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?dude, enlist and get the real first hand experience.yep the point is to weed out the wimps and other undesirables....Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?
Because life and death situations are physically and psychologically challenging. The point of military training is to get you out of your comfort zone and teach you to function in an unknown, high stress environment quickly, decisively and properly so that when the feces strikes the oscilatory blades at a high rate of velocity you instinctively know which way to jump, what to do, and who to follow.
Is so you don't curl up in a ball and start crying when the bullets start flying over your head. Why is military training physically and psychologically challenging?
    I don't know about a book but...

To answer from my point of view...

They need to break you down to your weakness...

They must destroy your confidence and re-build it the way they want it!!!
    To instill instant unfailing obedience.

To ensure that only those willing to defend our nation with deadly force are in a position to do so.

How to becom a weapon designer for the military?

what degrees would a person need from college to become a weapon designer for the military? Mechanical Engineering? Aeronautical Engineering?

oh and preferably a rifle type designerHow to becom a weapon designer for the military?Military weapons developments are supplied through contracts with US companies, or at least US factories.

I wouldn't worry. If you don't know basic grammar and punctuation, you have no chance. How to becom a weapon designer for the military?Well most of the weapons designs are done by outside companies

Remington, bushmaster, colt. So your gonna have to look up companies like that.

I doubt an Aeronautical engineering degree would help much with small arms designs.

The military does have groups that provide feed back on weapons and submit criteria but like I said 99% of the time the guns are made by out side companies.

Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying?

I am flying to korea to stay with my husband who is stationed there for a couple months. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag as checked luggage or can only the person in the military use them? I am flying United. I know that the weight allowance is different. I am just unsure if a spouse can use them or not because they are larger then the checked luggage bags. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying? No one cares if you use a duffle bag. But, they will care about the size and the weight. You still have to make sure that it does not exceed the size limitations, or you will be paying an additional fee for oversized or overweight luggage.

There is no difference in the weight allowed for active duty vs. non-active duty. The difference is that active duty and their dependants on official travel orders can claim any fees on their travel voucher. And, a few airlines will not charge fees. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying?
It isn't against the rules, but it wouldn't be my first choice of luggage for my wife. We are discouraged from anything that displays military affiliation when not on official business. It is thought to make us more of a target to potential terrorists. Attracting attention to yourself when traveling overseas isn't a good idea. The military personnel you see in uniform in airports are traveling on official orders. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying? There are not any rules in the military that say you can't and I've used Duffle Bags as my check-in luggage on planes in the past.

    So yes.

Ofc, I'm not sure if different airlines have different rules. You may want to ask them first. There are no military rules that say you can't though. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying?
don't see why not.. Peopel who have gotten OUT of the military still use them on flights. however since you are not on orders you will have to pay the baggage fee most likely. and make damn sure you stay within the weight allowance or that fee will skyrocket! Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying? You can but why would you? At most airports duffle bags are the last priority to load onto a flight and you have a higher chance of your bags showing up on a later flight. Can a military spouse use a military issued duffle bag flying?
ive seen many civilians use mil style duffle bags, to my knowledge, you can just purchase them at online and at stores that got them. its just a bag
I think you will be fine, I use a duffelbag (non military) when I fly. Just keep it under the limit and remove any insigna

  • Will the military take a person without a colon?

I want nothing more from my life than to join the Marine Corps. Only thing is, I have a rare condition called Familial Polyposis and the doctors are going to take out my colon. I have been told by a reliable source that the Corps will not take me, but what about any other section of the military? Thank you very much for your time, and answers. Will the military take a person without a colon?well if the corps won't take you then neither will any other branch. But don't give up it doesn't hurt to try, if this is what you always wanted to do then go for it. I will give you alittle hint if this colon want give any problems and it won't effect your ability to perform BCT and standing and walking for a long time. then don't tell them that you had your colon taking out. And then again when I join the Army and in MEPS they had made everyones spread they legs apart. they didn't touch anything they just stand back and look at your stuff. so I can't say it doesn't hurt to try. Just go to the stations and ask every branch because at least you will know. Will the military take a person without a colon?
No, the Marines will not take you, but there are many other ways you can help America. It is your desire to serve that makes you a patriot, not whether the military will take you. Thanks for loving America enough to want to serve. For that I respect you and wish you all the best in whatever you do with your life. Contact your Congressman and ask what jobs are available in support of the Marines. You should be able to find something you can do that those in uniform will appreciate and that will provide you with a good future.

May God bless you. Will the military take a person without a colon? No branch of the military will take you. I was in the Navy Reserve in 1991 when I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I had to have a colon resection ( most of my colon was removed). My personal doctor that treated me cleared me for the military, but the Navy doctor said I was unfit for service. I ended up with a honorable discharge under medical conditions. Will the military take a person without a colon?
Help me understand this situation, does this mean you have special needs or medical aids? The military usually doesn't take people who have special medical needs. Or, they get branched into non-combat MOS's.Will the military take a person without a colon?it may be waiverable, it all depends on what the doctors say at MEPSWill the military take a person without a colon?

Also it is an official site so you can use it as primary source. Women today serve in every branch of service and the only restrictions currently in place is that they may not serve in Combat Arms positions such as (Army) Infantry and Special Forces and certain positions within other branches such as the SEALs.What is the significance of women in the military today?i think you should look up something about the infantry or combat jobs and how women are not allowed to have combat jobs but over in afghanistan and iraq they go into the line of duty just like all the men do. idk just an example and you could also look up some women marines like Opha Mae Johnson she was the first female marine. she broke the barrier so to speak. hope this helped :)

How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?

No, but someone from a military background might have an idea. How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals? Two factors: seniority and being the BEST officer in your peer group.

Seniority is just a matter of putting in your time. There's minimum years that have to pass between promotions. If you are not promoted each time you are eligible, it will be very very hard to make General before your retirement age comes up.

The other factor: being the BEST. Part of this is YOUR effort. You need to be flawless. No bad reviews, perfect PT scores, perfect marksmanship. It helps if you are a graduate of West Point. It's also almost mandatory to be Ranger qualified, Airborne qualified, and have a CIB.

Part of it comes down to luck - your chances are best if you get Battalion and Brigade command of a really good unit, like the 82nd, when they go to combat. Not everyone gets this chance.

Part of it depends on the officers senior to you. Since Petraeus got to where he is, he has had a LOT more influence on which young officers are getting promoted to the top of their year group. He's picking "thinkers" like himself, in a lot of cases. Guys with time in academia, who've published theses and training documents. This will have quite an impact on our force for the next decade or more! How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?
Hard work and a natural ability. Anyone can work hard and do well in the military, but to achieve such high rank takes something extra. Some of it is luck. Being in the right place at the right time counts for a lot.How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?Be great at their job, long time service member, constant promotions

Gen. Petraeus spent around 35 years in the Army. I believe he was a Ranger who graduated with honors. You really have to be the best soldier around and stay in for a long time. How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?
Go to the US Military Academy and graduate at the top of your class continue through all your training. I think Petraeus has a Ph.D.How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?Stay there a long time , keep your nose clean , take advantage of any and all in service education that comes along .How do you attain High positions in the Military like 4 star Generals?
LOL Yeah, there any high level generals just sitting around on the internet today??

What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?

I would really appreciate some feedback from experienced military families or active duty. My best friend is going to enlist very soon into the air force. She has only gone to one semester of college, and decided she wants to get a radiology degree which is only a two year associates degree. I think she should try to take out a loan to go to school because the chances they will let her go back to college right after enlistment is slim, but she thinks otherwise. What do you think? What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?Once your friend gets done with basic training and tech school, she'll have OJT to do. However, during that time, she's getting a paycheck, benefits and 3 hots and a cot.

After she's done with the OJT, she can go to school and the AF will pay 100% of her tution. She'll have her GI Bill for a bachelor's or a master's if that's what she wants. What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?
She will most likely have to go to boot camp and then the schools for whatever her job is while she's in the Air Force. After she finishes those schools she will go to her first real assignment. When she's there she may be able to go to school; depending on the availability of funds for college for active duty personnel. So it could be 6 months to a year before she starts going back to school. I was in the Navy for four years and had to go through the same thing. What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?I would say just about 100%. The military has all sorts of programs in place to send troops to school, it's up to them to take advantage of them. Just by graduating from tech school she's going to gain credits towards a degree in an accredited college. She will be given 100% tuition assistance while on active duty and not to mention the GI Bill. The GI Bill was recently redesigned and starting this August, offers some amazing benefits. http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/CH33/鈥?/a> Be happy for your friend, she's making a choice for her future. Whether or not she takes advantage of her opportunities is up to her but I recommend you support her all the way. What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?
Military wants you to better yourself through education all the way around. You can even goto college fulltime while serving in the military but i think that depends on branch, and i believe you have to keep a 90 average. Also gotta get approved to do it and have nothing going on with training, it gets complicated after awhile. What are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?only if she she is in the Reserve and then if her unit gets deployed she will have to put school on hold she could go in to the Medical field and get it free in the service but for sure they won't put the service on hold for her schoolWhat are the chances you enlist in the military and they put you in school?
The military is all about education, they pay for all of it and work actively with you to help you finish your degree

Look for posters with a military theme at your local mass merchandiser or poster store. Visit your local Army-Navy store for ideas. Frame pictures or calendar pages and hang them on the walls. Display toy G.I. Joes, tanks, and Jeeps on shelves. Make curtains out of camouflage material, and if your son has a lamp in his room, cover the shade with camouflage fabric, also.

When a war movie comes out, call your local theatre and ask if you can have one of the movie posters or standee after the movie is done playing. I used to work at a theatre, they will give these items away if you ask for them. Heck they may have some left from the last war movie, just call and ask. What are the move in costs associated with military housing?

My wife and I are moving to San Diego in July, and we're trying to budget our moving expenses. Could anyone please tell me if you have to pay anything when you move in to military housing? I know the rent and utilities all come from your BAH but wasn't sure about things like security deposits, pet fees, etc. Thank you! What are the move in costs associated with military housing?$0, nada, not a thing! What are the move in costs associated with military housing?
I'm guessing this is your first time in military housing? Your BAH covers everything. There are no security deposits, but in lieu of that you have an initial housing inspection when you first move in. Make sure you go through the house and write down every single thing you see wrong with it ( any defects). because when you move out you will have a final inspection and any damages to the house you will have to cover out of pocket. Some housing inspectors are nice and some are really mean, my friend in military housing had to pay for all of the carpet to be replaced in the living room because of one spot she couldn't get out. thankfully i didn't have that experience. and also there are two different types of military housing, one which is still cared for and operated by the military and PPV housing which is still military housing but its been contracted out to the private sector to maintain. personally i had abetter experience in PPV. They were nicer, housing quality was better, lawns are maintained by them except in fenced in areas (backyards) as far as i know i dont think there were pet deposits, but i could be wrong, they will tell you when you get there about that and which animals are allowed. but off course stuff like cable, phone, renters insurance ect....comes out of your pocket. What are the move in costs associated with military housing?I know that my answer is the opposite of what everyone else is saying, but there IS a security deposit (month's rent) that you have to pay when you move into post housing that has been privatized. Posts where the housing is still being maintained by the military service wouldn't be able to charge a security deposit, so it will be determined depending on where you move.
there are some places that no pets are allowed ,and if you have them and that's all they offer you, you will have a problem. thee ARE pet deposits for PPV housing that accepts pets.

Besides.. the waiting list for on base housing can be quite long and depends on your paygrade and bedroom entitlement. you may get there and find that MFH is not an option at all. What are the move in costs associated with military housing? There are no security deposits or pet fees.

But you will have to pay for

I was proud to serve with them because they wanted so bad to be a part of the American dream that they would fight and if necessary die for the opportunity.

What classes should i take to become a military engineer?

I want to be a military engineer something to do with computers, but what should I take in college? What classes should i take to become a military engineer?Hello,

I am currently majoring in Computer Engineering. If you choose an engineering degree at the school you plan to attend, you will not have to worry about classes because they usually have a list of all of the classes required for that major. To be military engineer I recommend Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical engineering, since those fields are in highest demand in regards to military engineers. What classes should i take to become a military engineer?Classes are already set up for each major at different colleges so you don't need to think about specific classes.

Instead, worry about what your MAJOR is going to be.

I'd recommend either computer science/engineering or systems engineering (if the school offers that degree).

Military uniforms(fatigues, bdus, especially) can get you killed. In your best opinion, how will you get rid off them all?How is the proper way to dispose of military uniforms? You are supposed to burn them. That way nobody gets ahold of them who isn't supposed to.

Been in too long? Maybe you haven't been in long enough. Of course there's truth to it. Read up on it. I mean you wouldn't just throw them in the trash in Iraq...so why would you here...sir?

Not to mention he's asking what is the PROPER way to dispose of them...not how do most people do it.How is the proper way to dispose of military uniforms?
You can get killed for having them?!

    That's news to me.

I still have all of mine, I wear the pants all the time to go four wheeling, hunting, yard work etc. Not much use for the shirts though. If you are that desperate to get rid of them just take off any unit insignia or name tapes and sell them or give them to goodwill. It's not like it's a matter of national security being you can buy them almost anywhere nowadays. How is the proper way to dispose of military uniforms?Wash them, and offer them for sale on Ebay like everybody else does!!!

we gave my husbands to our local high school for a school play. alot of schools keep costumes for plays. ( we took off all badges and patches)How is the proper way to dispose of military uniforms?
I believe that if a person has not served in the military they should not wear military issue uniforms and then dispose of them like a piece of trash! So don't buy them if you are trying to look like a tough guy.One time I saw a guy who was wearing a Marine Core shirt come across an actual Marine. The Marine became angry and told this guy to remove the shirt or get knocked on his ***.The guy took off the shirt.I would like to see the military dispose of used military uniforms. If you have served its OK.If you haven't don't buy them.
I'm keeping mine just in case I get recalled.
    UCMJ says burn them
WTF? How can you get killed for disposing of old Fatigues and BDU/DCU uniforms?

First of all, the BDU pattern is used by many countries around the world, so it wasnt a sign of a G.I. anymore.

Secondly, All USA issue Uniforms are available from Commercial Sources, so anyone can purchase them if they really want them.

Thirdly, I gave My old OG-507's, Jungle Fatigues, BDU's to My Nephew
Thank ya LD, We finally agree on Something!!
Oh come on. There is no truth to that. You served too long. Just throw them in the trash. Better yet, keep them for hunting, yard work etc.
I'm the sentimental kind. I'll hold onto my old uniforms and cams, even if I never wear them again.

But if I had to dispose of them, why waste them? Give them to some kids to play with, or visit a surplus center and hand them in for a few dollars a piece.
PROUD OF THE MILITARY UNIFORM;" NOT PROUD OF YOU"!! GIVE TO THE DISABLE AMERICAN VETERANS
I use my old ones for paintballing and cut the pant legs in half to make some nice shorts out them. But first, your supposed to take off any patches that show your rank, career or affiliation to any armed force...however you can leave your name tape on.
    Hey I'll take them; )
turn them in to the va of donate them to the good will
    you burn them, seriously...

  • What are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?

I'm 17, and will be a senior this year in high school. I haven't really thought much about what to do when I graduate. Maybe the military would be good. What are some good jobs fro a girl in the military? Do I need any training to do those jobs? What about grades in high school? I know some colleges want good grades, but I only get mostly Cs and a couple Bs and one D last year. Is that good enough to get in the military?

Thanks! What are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?I'm pretty sure you have 2 D's

hay-oooooWhat are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?
air traffic controlWhat are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?hahaha strip at the NCO club... nice.
Dont have an answer for you but you are freakin goergous.

Just so you know. What are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?First, beware of joining the military for lack of something better to do. Some people do it and love it, but some hate it. This is not a job, it's a way of life and at least an 8 year commitment to service, country, integrity, honor, excellence, among other ideals (not necessarily in that order or with those particular words). Join because you want to serve.

The military doesn't consider grades for enlistment. As long as you have a high school diploma and the required ASVAB scores (see below), academically you're covered. You'll also need to pass the medical and security background tests.

The ASVAB, or Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery, has 9 subtests. 4 of them count towards your AFQT, or qualifying score for joining a military service. Those are arithmetic reasoning, mathematics knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and word knowledge. Technically, you'll need a 31 for the Army (basically score better than 31% of those who take it), 32 for USMC, 35 Navy, 36 AF, and 40 USCG. However given the number of people trying to get in, you'll want to shoot higher. 50 is good, 65 is better, 93+ is best.

The ASVAB also contributes to determining what jobs (MOSs, AFSCs, or ratings) you qualify for in the military service of your choice. For instance, if you want to be a metal worker in the Army, you better score well enough to qualify in general science, auto and spot, mathematics knowledge, and electronics information.

The other 5 subtests are general science, auto and shop, mechanical comprehension, electronics information, and assembling objects (that's still paper or computer questions, not physical).

As for jobs, there are literally hundreds. You cannot take a direct ground combat job, but any administrative, intel, mechanical, electrical, medical, emergency, etc, etc non-combat job is open. Many civilian jobs have military counterparts (everyone has to get paid, have the law enforced, and get their vehicles fixed). Gender has nothing to do with it besides direct ground combat, look into what you like and what interests you. The military will train you for all of them with basic training (which trains you to be a basic Soldier, Airmen, Marine, Sailor, or Coastie) and initial job training (AIT, Tech School, MOS School and ITB/MCT, or A-School) and on-going training as well. The only real exception to all this are things like the bands, which require some skill before joining (but you still go to basic training, advanced training, etc).

Also, be aware that there will be plenty of people like the guys on this thread in the military. Though I'm sure you already know that one. What are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?
A Female can do any job in the military EXCEPT a Combat MOS (Military Occupational Specialty, your job basically). To join the military, you need to be either 17 years of age with parental consent, or 18 years old. You also have to have either a high school diploma (grades don't matter, you just need the actual diploma), or a GED with 15 college level 100 credits. You also have to pass the ASVAB (Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery) test to join in the branch of service you choose, each one has a minimum score you need to get, the higher score you get, the more jobs you are eligible to "apply" for. If you get a high ASVAB score, you can choose a MOS that requires more intelligence. Don't worry, the test is easy, I got an 89 (out of 99) when I was only a Junior in high school, I however still decided to choose Infantry. ^_^
    http://www.goarmy.com/JobCatList.do?redirect=true

There are many options, you can be anything from a cook to a surgeon. (As long as you have good ASVAB scores)What are some good jobs in the military for a girl to do?

What is the cheapest military rate hotel in Disneyworld area?

We're going to Disney World in Dec. My husband is active duty; we know about the armed forces salute discount. But we are also searching for the cheapest hotel/house. A few years back, we went to one place that was only 30 dollars a night, but I can't remember what hotel it was. Does anybody know of one of the cheapest places for military?

I know Shades of Green is the military resort, but since it is a resort, it is like 100 dollars a night, which I know is cheap for a resort, but we want dirt cheap. What is the cheapest military rate hotel in Disneyworld area?Disneyland Resort hotels are also offering special room rates for active or retired military personnel. For example, at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel, active or retired members of the military and their families may find hotel rooms starting at $119 per night during value season, with great savings during other times of the offer period. This offer is available through June 12, 2009, and the number of rooms available at these special rates is limited. What is the cheapest military rate hotel in Disneyworld area? This article should help you book a 4 or 5 star hotel near Disney World at significantly large discount rates. What is the difference between diplomacy action or military?

With the United States of America, what is the difference between diplomacy action or military action? and which one would you think is better to handle North Korea. i think our main concern is that we don't want China to end up siding against us. so which would be the safer routeWhat is the difference between diplomacy action or military?China depends on the US. Where will they sell all of their cheap manufactured goods if they alienate the US?

Korea is small potatoes. They need to be contained. Much like the old soviet union, they will eventually collapse. The Korean people are starving while their leader is bankrupting the country in a quest for weapons. Eventually a country like that will collapse.

If we hadn't intervened in Iraq, Saddam would have eventually been overthrown. We are seeing in Iran the beginnings of an eventual collapse of their government. What is the difference between diplomacy action or military?
North Korea is not small potato, no state can be contained by another state. North Korea can do what they want, and i believe US should mind their own business, as North Korea, China and the rest of the states did not intervene in US WMD...

The pay goes to the military member and he/she has to arrange for the spouse to have access. How much does the National Guard supply to military spouses each month during a soldier's time served? The military does not pay spouses, it is up the person who is in the military to do that. If you are doing your drill weekends then you get money for that around $80 or so a day. If you are doing your 2 weeks you get paid for that. Only if you are called up for deployment will there be more support and use of facilities. You would get BAH (housing allowance), Family Separation when gone longer than 30 days. Tricare will become full time and no charge instead of paying per month, etc...

  • Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?

Many countries like Japan, South Korea, and Germany have a large US presence despite the fact that they really don't need us there. Since they have our military there to help them, they don't have to build up their own large enough to defend themselves. This frees up their tax money to spend on other things like education, and health care. So do you think that our spending on defense is being used to subsidize healthcare in other nations?Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?I do see your argument, but the USA is not there to defend the interests of those nations, but to defend US interests which happen to involve defending those nations.

Remember, universal healthcare in Japan and Germany costs less than the health system in the USA (per person) and has better health outcomes.Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?
I don't think you quite grasp the true extent to HOW RICH the United States really is. The amount we spent on the two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would have been enough to handle healthcare reform with some money to spare, or maybe bring our infrastructure up to date so I don't have to swerve around potholes every day on the way home from work...

But why help Americans when we can fight two pointless wars thousands of miles away, and get nothing to show for it economically.

The point? The US can easily afford to subsidize its own health care AND keep a sizable military force deployed overseas. Not only that, but we are SO RICH that a relatively minor across the board tax increase would probably pretty much solve most of our budget problems.

But whatever...Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?Well you make an interesting point. The US certainly contributes a lot of money to country economies that host a military base.Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?
Yes, we are delivering free medical care in Iraq and Afghanistan. Too bad we can't afford to help our own citizens.Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?Yes that is what one of the outcomes of our military being in all those countries.Does our military subsidize the healthcare of people in other countries?
    Yes , in Iraq .

How many military bases do we need around the world?

Googled it and found, depending which article you believe, there are between 737 and 1,100 US bases around the world, not on US soil. Washington is telling us we're broke, got to raise the debt limit, yet we can afford to station our military all over the planet. How many, if any, do we need outside of our own country? How many military bases do we need around the world? How many could ancient rome afford before their house of cards came crumbling down. How many military bases do we need around the world?
I say get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, they are both hopeless cases who refuse to be dragged out of the dark ages. Then close ALL bases around the world and bring the troops home. If it should really become necessary for us to intervene somewhere around the world we can be there in a few hours with troops and a few days with plenty of tanks and guns. How many military bases do we need around the world?I wouldn't have ANY ISSUE with closing down every single foreign military base, and building 2 dozen more Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier task forces to patrol the world from international waters. I think the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Abraham Lincoln, and USS Nimitz parked 20 miles off the coast of any hostile nation would show American military power a lot better than an airbase 1500 miles away in a country that could pay the price later on for helping us.
Google is wrong. Sorry, but what they call a base is stretching the terms. We need enough to do the missions we need to do. The US does not stop at the waters edge We have US territory as far away as Guam. To think defense is the cash cow is wrong. In fact lack of funds is starting to effect upkeep reediness. Planes %26amp; ships need places to re fuel %26amp; re supply. You can't go all the way back to the states for things. How many military bases do we need around the world?5 military bases in every city in every state in every country on earth. let's "keep the peace" by having gangs of professional, highly trained killers just everywhere. that way, one single deviant step out of line - boom. nipped in the bud, we'll have peace forever and ever and evermore. How many military bases do we need around the world?
Personally if there is going to be a war, I'd prefer it fought on their soil! The collateral damage for the USA is less. Yes I'd prefer each country pay for their own security.

While I am very fond of the tradition at VMI, I honestly think your best choice for a first rate college in a beautiful location with fun sports teams is Virginia Tech.

If you want the smaller college environment, VMI and The Citadel are both superb. I'd simply choose whichever one suits your career choice the best (and would give VMI the nod in engineering from my professional experience).

EDIT: Bruno, West Point is not one of the Senior Military Colleges...but that does not take away from its position, in my opinion, as the finest school in the United States. What senior military college is the best?Bruno: Westpoint is not a SMC, it's an Academy.

    The six SMC's are:

    -North Georgia

    -Virginia Tech

    -Texas A and M

    -The Citadel

    -Norwhich

Personally I would go with one of the first 3. Because the last 3 are full-fledged military schools, the first 3 are normal colleges with just a large Corps of Cadets program, And I would rather have a more normal, free college lifestyle. But North Georgia is only Army, and much smaller than VT and Texas A and M. My cousin did AFROTC at VT, and liked it. But he said it was hard. How the military can control a country with a president ie Egypt?

With the uprising in Egypt today the muslin brother hood is trying to take control of the government with a president but my understanding it is the military (1950's) are the true rulers. How is that possible ?How the military can control a country with a president ie Egypt?Well Mubarak is the military technically. He was the Air Marshall during the 6th of October war in 1973. But, he is similar to Eisenhower, used to be in the army but left to become President. But he is Corrupt! 30 years is enough! People are dieing! Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?

The US military CLAIMS that drug use among soldiers is not allowed.

However, during the Vietnam War, a HUGE percentage of soldiers engaged in illegal drug use, from pot to heroin.

Why did the US military allow this to happen?

Why did the command and discipline chain break down so severely?

Why did the generals at the time completely fail to manage this issue? Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?These are all great questions and all inter-related.

All I can say is that the Army learned from its mistakes in this regard and in other regards. COIN comes from direct Vietnam study. Gen. Petraeus studied Vietnam, took over command in Iraq and won that war.

But yes, what you ask is very true and sad. HERE ARE YOUR ANSWERS:

    1. the US Army was a bit in dissaray due to politicians not allowing it to fight the war all out. We would have invaded North Vietnam and bombed it to hell like we later did in Linebacker.

    2. discipline and command broke down. there was a lot of fragging of officers. remoteness and inexperience of the Army vs. terrain and vs. enemy. Disbelief in the mission. Furthermore, allowing criminals in was the single biggest mistake.

    3. generals were coming out of WW2 and Korea wars, where they fought linear frontal warfare. This was the first Guerilla War they were in, far from home in terrible terrain and weather which made logistics a huge problem.

SO: criminals in the Army, Drafting of unwilling civilians, logistics, politicians resulted in tha debacle. Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?
Times were greatly different then. It was the time of "free love" "tune-in" and "drop out" and the drug culture coming into vogue. Experimentation with drugs especially marijuana become wide scale with over half the civilian population trying it at some point. You also have to remember that not all that much was known about it and how it led to harder drugs and there was a huge counter culture rising up for the first time against established social aspects, legal and law enforcement parts of society as well as the military. Testing was not widespread and counter drug approaches were not developed yet and in place to keep pace with this overwhelming swell. It was also thought that soft drug users could be rehabilitated an the military developed the drug retraining program which largely failed and was discontinued in 1973. Also the need for the draft and sufficient numbers of US males for the Army really also helped create an atmosphere where you were retained and kept in the military even though you might have been busted for using soft drugs like marijuana. The zero tolerance policy that is in place now was not adopted by the US military until the mid to late 80's and well after the end of Vietnam. Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?Interesting question, depends on the people in the chain of command, I was in a unit with a bunch of people from, the crib/projects, the 1SGT who got deployed to Bosnia was always punishing the SGT's for allowing this ghetto behavior to esist in the unit, but as soon as he was deployed and the new 1SGT took his spot, this one, now he though he was a player and a pimp (drugs, sex and rok n roll)and he was having sex with all the SGT's in the unit and got caught, I could not wait for the real hardcore 1SGT to get back from deployment, by the way the other 1SGT got caught and was taken out of command for some time.

military people hate it when I tell this story. Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?
    1) General's don't control corporals. It came down to the disciplinary control of the junior officers. 1st and 2nd Lieutenants are young and often recent college grads. Conscripts are men between 17 and 35. We are talking about a 25-year-old telling a 27-year-old not to smoke pot.

    2) Consider the time. A larger portion of the youth population experimented with drugs in the 60's and the percentages (I can find them if you want, I remember seeing charts during a course on modern US history) were higher on college campuses. Junior officers were youth -from college campuses.

    3) This is my opinion, but disciplinary measures are likely more difficult to enforce on conscripted forces. All current US Marines are volunteers. In 1966, many G.I.鈥檚 were draftees -unwilling draftees. Why did the US military permit so much drug use among soldiers during the Vietnam War?The percentage that used drugs especially hard drugs was no greater in Viet Nam than it is in this country today. Why do they permit movie and TV show piracy in this war?

What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?

The US is powerful only because of its huge violent military. It abuse rights, tortures, kidnaps, bombs innocents, lies, invaded Iraq illegally... The list of US terror attacks is long. If the world united against US war crimes do you think we could stop US terrorism? What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses? They could always surrender and join the USA!!!

God Bless America! What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?
I don't know if you read up on other governments, but almost every big government does this. I would like to know how we invaded Iraq illegally. If we have a reasonable amount of info to do it, we do it. I must admit there were obviously no WMD found, but we liberated a country. There isn't a chance if the world uniting against the US. Personally, Bush annoys the crap out of me but what he is doing is not terrorism. What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?Yeah. Our Government does a lotta crap. I don't know if the rest of the world will try and confront us in any meaningful/consequential way.

Hopefully Obama will win in November.

Thank god Bush is leaving. It's hilarious to me people on this board bring up 9/11 as proof WE aren't terrorists . Yes, 9/11 was awful and no country deserves its citizens slaughtered, but just because terrorism has happen to America how does that equal "America does no wrong to the rest of the world?" That is the crappiest logic/argument.
Yeah, I suppose we do have to train our young men and women to be tough in the military seeing as they are fighting for our liberty and right to be free. We've fed more than half of the world, after the invasion of Iraq, we gave them food and medical supplies. We went into Somalia and lost alot of our Rangers and Elite Fighting men because their militia was stealing food because of the geneocidal maniacs in Africa. We went to war when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor because they destroyed our Pacific Fleet. We went to Vietnam and lost 58,000 and took in I don't know how many refugees to our country while their country took their people and slaughtered them. Hitler killed over 6 million Jews in World War II and the people in concentration camps prayed that American's would free them instead of the Russian's.

So, you tell me we are terrorists. And watch the video of 9/11 and 6,000 American's who were killed that day and call us terrorists. We are too damn nice to people! That's our only fault! What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?for starters, all illegal aliens, legal immigrants and those thinking of becoming either, can go back to the countries they came from, or stay in their OWN countries, and then launch MASSIVE protests against the brutality of AMERICA!

Be sure to refuse our financial aid the next time you have a TSUNAMI, or earthquake, or disease epidemic, as it will hurt our feelings if you do, and since we only offer it as a way to edge our way into vulnerable countries, you would be fouling up an otherwise foolproof scheme.

┬What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?
Wow are that much of a moron? Sounds like someone needs to do their research. Sure the US does things we aren't proud of, name a perfect country. Hope your not in the US cause your asking for a major butt kicking, and if you are; Either stand behind the troops or in front. Maybe just get the F* out of here.
I'm guessing you don't live in the US....lol........Ok but you do know we are a super power right?......and we may b*tch and moan about our government but you attack us and we band together like no ones business.......but hey feel free......I'll be asking how it feels when we kick your a**What can the world do to oppose US military brutality and abuses?
Vote for Barack Obama for President of the United States.

Replace all of the incumbent politicians in Washington D.C. because most of them are tied to special interests.
Maybe they will use the Brown Note on you.
"...The list of US terror attacks is long..."

Uh, could I see that list, please. Otherwise, go back down into your basement and watch some TV.
    Invaded irag illegally?
Want to stop us from invading? Stop people from flying airplanes into buildings. etc.etc. etc.
Uh Bernard-you've been listening to your professors again, haven't you?
F*** with the bull, ya get the horns
hmmm, don't attack us? But if you kill us in the name of islam, that's just religion? go screw.
    So whats your point?

Somebody has to clean up the mess.

Who else is going to do it?
Getting rid of George Bush would go a long way towards solving the problem. Bush has this stupid Idea that he and he alone in the Savior of the World and only HE knows what is best for everyone else. This is indeed a MAJOR problem and has caused a general increase in the overall level of hatred for the US worldwide.

One can only hope that McCain does not get elected President in November because he will be a mere extension of George Bush and has said he would keep the US in Iraq for 100 years.

It is amazing to me where these idiots get the notion that the US has to intervene in the affairs of other countries. This is NOT one of the principles upon which the US was founded, and the whole purpose of the country has been hijacked by decades of interventionist fools.
Maybe economics is the root of it all. The people in the US providing wealth for the military and government are denied a fair and balanced media here in the US. If more documentaries or foreign news programs gained access to American eyes, we might not so easily support our Congress's actions. Set up a foreign news service site specifically for Americans. Maybe make it a multicountry foreign news service so the Americans don't have to search.
A few U.S. soldiers tortured Iraqi soldiers in a misguided attempt at revenge but P.O.W's are taken very good care of. The P.O.W.S at Guantanamo bay are taken care of way better than low class citizens. They are feed, clothed, given very expensive medical and dental care, and these guys are no better than your run of the mill killers.

Unfortunately there is factions of every gov that does the thing you mentioned but unless they're a physically caught there's not much you can do.

Although I do not agree with our continued presence in Iraq I do believe 100% that invading Irqs had to be done. Sadam had been killing the people of Iraq by the thousands and the death toll incured under his regime ranks in the millions.

Think of that death toll before you say invading was wrong. How could we not be behind taking out Sadam. Although I don't think that was really why bush decided to invade but it gave him and excuse along with Iraq supposedly having nukes even though nukes were never found ( although there was all the parts to make nukes).
Thanks for the laugh, and 2 pts.

Oh and thanks for using the freedom of speech my husband provides you with, no matter how stupid and ignorant you sound.
    shut up?

What are the qualifications for living on a military base?

My husband is currently over seas right now and is about to be coming home in January. During R%26amp;R suprise suprise I got pregnant. He is with a National Guard troop. We have been playing with the idea of going active duty. I want to live on Base and save some money and be around other military families. How do we go about doing this and what steps actually need to be taken? He is currently ranked as a SPC.What are the qualifications for living on a military base?First he has to be active duty.

Then it will all depend on where he's stationed- it could be a few weeks to get a house to over six months. You'll get a house based on his pay grade.

No worries, they make it easy to sign up for housing. The hard part is waiting. What are the qualifications for living on a military base?
it really depends on what base you are at... typically it's not a big thing but depending on how much military housing is available. I've lived on bases where people had to fight and claw because there wasn;t enough housing and I've lived on bases where single marines had base housing because there was an abundance of it but no room in the barracks. What are the qualifications for living on a military base?IF he goes AD base housing has a waiting list based on paygrade and bedroom entitlement. it can easily be a year before you can get into Base housing. What are the qualifications for living on a military base?
He needs to be active duty. After he has changed his status just go to the housing office on your base and fill out all the paperwork. It's not a big deal really. What are the qualifications for living on a military base?Did you knjow this...

What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?

If any, what jobs would allow a civilian to work with/interact with military personnel on a daily basis? What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?A lot, usually involves technology...i mean military hires contractors all the time to build, repair things. What military does is to execute missions with the things they were given. But assuming that you mean to be working WITH on a personal level, i would say Aerospace field such as the famous Boeing, Lockheed Martin..etc where they would build the latest fighters for U.S...i mean, anything the military is using : buildings, foods, vehicles, weapons, gadgets..etc..they are all made from private companies..there are only few exceptionsWhat civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?
Many ART "Air Reserve Technician" jobs, civilians work next to their military, active duty, counterparts on a daily basis.

In the Aircraft Maintenance areas, ART are Federal Civil Service employees during the week, and Drilling Reservist on the weekend.

They do the same job as active duty during the week, just don't wear a uniform, and they can belong to a union.

There are a few, very few straight civilian jobs in these areas, but there are some.

Lot more Civil Service jobs, work with the military but seldom side by side.

There are ART positions in many AFSCs.What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?Any and everything in the medical field. There are some telecommunication jobs that work with military. All housing and transportation offices are manned by civilians. Military pay and all personnel records i.e inprocessing/outprocessing are also manned by civilians. Pretty much anything you can think of.What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?
If you can kiss enough butt, pass all the tests, find the right person who can bypass the employment garbage, have a 4 year degree, afford to wait 3 to 5 years to be hired, willing to put up with massive amounts of incredably petty rules and regulations that were pulled out of some baboons butt-

Oh, and pass a background check, and credit check to prove you're not a risk- you too could get a job working side by side with the nukes at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

The Navy has a very strange requirement- if you have a 4 year degree you're automatically employable to work on nuke stuff. This means if you have a degree in Air Guitar you could work on nukes- yet, a guy with a 2 year degree carrying a 4.0 GPA can't. Go figure!

Otherwise, civilians arn't allowed to work with military per se- that is on combat front lines they wouldn't be allowed to work with.

HOWEVER, PMC's (Private Military Companys) can do things that the military can't. Example: PMC's can LEGALLY execuite people, use nerve gas, and in theory could even use nuke weapons....all because international treatys are written between nations and formal military organizations. PMC's are mercernarys and are specifically required to work OUTSIDE of the law.

So, you join the US Army, and you go infantry- you do your 2 years, get out, and you're unemployed. You see a magainze article in "Soldier of Fortune" that says "Former Military Wanted- pay 160,000 to start out",,,,,,and you get hired by Halburton for PMC "Hunter/killer teams" (Hunt down and kill bad guys- and bad attitudes is what got Halburton kicked out of Iraq 2 years ago)

Meanwhile, back when i was a signal soldier I was stationed on top of a mountain back at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Someone had given our 2nd Lt. the books that said our equipment could transmit both digital voice on 24 channels, and analog voice over 12 channels.

Somehow, the LT thought we could do both at the same time. I tried- with my 2 year degree in electronics- that the equipment could do one or the other but not both at the same time.

The Colonel believed the Second Lt, I was a lowly Coporal (I had more formal training than anyone except the Warrant Officer in charge of repair of the equpiment) and I knew we were screwed- and screwed big time. I drank coffee, sweated over the schematics trying to come up with some way to reprogram the system to make it work. I even took up smoking during this time- and desperately tried to make this work.

Anyhow- I've got books ripped up, diagrams taped to the wall- and the Colonel sent up a Civilian Repair Specialist for these systems to "make them work like the Leuteanants system work"

So the Civlian Specialist- I think my Stick Sgt "Bo" Thompson sent him to me- started out at my communications van. I show him the diagrams and how I needed to add an extra circuit that would split the difference between analog and digital by adding a "tag bit" to the analog signal so the system would know the difference.

The Civlian Specialist offered me a job as soon as my hitch was up- at 20 dollars an hour. That was a LOT of money back in 1987. Wish I'd taken him up on it!What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?United Service Organizations is a way to get to interact with soldiers on a daily basis, but 95% of their personnel are volunteers, not paid workers.

You could join Xe (formerly known as Blackwater), but that's probably not a good idea. Those guys are kinda crooked. What civilian jobs allow you to work alongside military?
