Googled it and found, depending which article you believe, there are between 737 and 1,100 US bases around the world, not on US soil. Washington is telling us we're broke, got to raise the debt limit, yet we can afford to station our military all over the planet. I say get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, they are both hopeless cases who refuse to be dragged out of the dark ages. Then close ALL bases around the world and bring the troops home. If it should really become necessary for us to intervene somewhere around the world we can be there in a few hours with troops and a few days with plenty of tanks and guns.How many military bases do we need around the world?I wouldn't have ANY ISSUE with closing down every single foreign military base, and building 2 dozen more Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier task forces to patrol the world from international waters. I think the USS Ronald Reagan, USS Abraham Lincoln, and USS Nimitz parked 20 miles off the coast of any hostile nation would show American military power a lot better than an airbase 1500 miles away in a country that could pay the price later on for helping us.
Google is wrong. Sorry, but what they call a base is stretching the terms. We need enough to do the missions we need to do. The US does not stop at the waters edge We have US territory as far away as Guam. To think defense is the cash cow is wrong. In fact lack of funds is starting to effect upkeep reediness. Planes %26amp; ships need places to re fuel %26amp; re supply. Personally if there is going to be a war, I'd prefer it fought on their soil! The collateral damage for the USA is less. Yes I'd prefer each country pay for their own security.
