How did the great depression affect the US Military and their families?

Was just wondering how the Military and their families were affected by the great depression IE. How did they live compared to the rest of the population of the united states...How did the great depression affect the US Military and their families?pretty much they lived like crap. They had to live in tents and eat bread and potatoes. They only got food whenever the community kitchen had money to buy food for the poor.
