What is the closest job/career to being in the military?

I love the Military but, I can't join the military for some personal reasons. So what is the closest thing to having that experience. I m talking about like the combat they do and the way they live. Preferbly something physical.

Police work would be an obvious answer; you also might consider security contracting. Blackwater's a well-known private organization that offers security, but there are others. The border patrol does a lot of things similar to what the military does, as well. Check some job fairs next time they come through your town; you might be surprised.
I would say the police or sherriff. I say this because my bf is the same as you, he craves combat and really loved the beginning of his army life.. with all the training and exercising. He went to iraq for 2 years, came back, graduated from college and now he is in the sherriffs academy.
