What's the difference between an military field manual and a technical manual?

For anyone who is (or was) in the military. What's the difference between an military field manual and a technical manual?A TM accompanies a piece of equipment and explains when and how to conduct maintenance. An FM tells the science of how to conduct operations generally in a tactical environment. What's the difference between an military field manual and a technical manual?field manuals are for the practical application of something, not limited to a specific item or system-theres an FM for the M16, but theres also an FM for patrolling.

technical manuals are specific to an item or system, and split into different levels. '10' manuals are for your end user, and then there are manuals for higher levels of maintenance.

all will have the characteristics of the gear, but the higher manuals will go into further detail on breaking the assemblies down and doing more detailed maintenance.

for example marine corps TM 05538C-10 is the M16 users manual. it tells you how to properly maintain and do basic troubleshooting.

TM 05538-23%26amp;P is the intermediate maintenance manual, that explains how to perform repairs and replacement of just about all the parts of the gun.

whereas the FM for the M16 would be on field maintenance, employing the weapon, and immediate/remedial actionsWhat's the difference between an military field manual and a technical manual?tech. manual you learn from on base or in training...field manual for info while in the field
