And could I fire military-grade 9mm out of my Gock 17?Whats the difference between commercial ammo and military ammo? For 9mm, there is no difference. However, make sure it is not 9mm submachine gun ammo, though this is not as commonly found on accident in the surplus market anymore. While the Glock and Ruger can take it, it was known to wear out and break some lesser guns. But chances are you will have normal military handgun ammo, which is just fine in commercial pistols, as it is just normal full metal jacket and normal pressure.Whats the difference between commercial ammo and military ammo?
Much of the military ammo is loaded to higher pressures, and/or has thicker brass which with like amounts of power, also raises pressures... That it why it is perfectly safe to shoot commercial .223 ammo in a gun marked 5.56mm NATO, but not vice-versa.... And too, most military ammo has sealed, and crimped-in primers, while much commercial ammo does not.Whats the difference between commercial ammo and military ammo?Military ammo is loaded to specific pressure ranges to cycle semi and full auto weapons; also possible have a thicker neck to avoid separation and are annealed to aid in good feeding. It is always safe to fire military ammo in commercial weaponry as the commercial ammo may not have the thicker neck and may be loaded to higher pressures. The 308 Winchester round develops higher CUP pressure than its parent the 762x51Nato round; use the nato round in sporting weapons but not a good idea to fire 308 Win ammo in military weapons for the reasons listed above.Whats the difference between commercial ammo and military ammo?
Military ammo is loaded to mil specifications per contract which is not always the same as SAMMI standards. Military ammo is always full metal jacket, with sealed joints at neck and primer, and the primer pockets are usually crimped. All to lengthen the shelf life of the ammunition under less than nominal conditions.
I once had a couple cases of WWII German submachinegun 9mm which I shot just fine out of a steel Browning Hi-Power. I would hesitate to shoot much of something like that in a lighter alloy or plastic frame gun, but otherwise 9mm military handgun ammo works just fine. Remember, the military buys commercial handguns, they don't design their own, at least not here in the US.Whats the difference between commercial ammo and military ammo?Much of military ammo, regardless of country origin, are full metal jacket ball.
