Hi, I am moving to Camp Lejeune with my husband next month and I ain the process of looking for a job. Does anyone know if non-military spouses can get a job on base or what the process is for finding a decent federal job?
Thanks so much! What kind of jobs are available for military spouses?Jacksonville is a fairly small town so job hunting can be a problem there.
.
On base jobs are kind of catch as catch can. There is the PX, base supply uses some civilian employees, base housing prep also uses some civilians, and Commissary, clubs.e.g enlisted men's, NCO's, Staff NOC's, and Officers clubs. Snack bars etc. If you can drive a truck base motors as a driver.
.
Out in town the usual such as McDonald's, or working in a store as a sales lady.
.
As far as government jobs i.e civil service types you'll have to go through the regular civil service hiring procedures.
I know not much help but can't be helped because of the semi isolated rural area that Camp Lejune, Cherry Point and Little River are located. Kind of the rear end of the world.
But the good thing is that place has tons, and tons of history going back well before the war of Independence. And there are tons of historical sites there. You can lots of time in just New-Bern looking at the homes built back in the 1700's including Black Beard's home. Then you have the outer banks which are fun to go see. Then, also close by Myrtle Beach S.C. is a good weekend trip. Closer is Moorehead City. What kind of jobs are available for military spouses? The majority of civilians employed on military bases are dependents.
