I was in the Army from 1950-1957. The Army sent me to school to learn Radar Repair and I was assigned after that to The Army Security Agency Headquarters in Germany. There I received all kinds of varied experience designing and constructing different types of electronic equipment to fill the special needs of that type of countermeasures work. After my time was up I had a number of great job offers, one from the CIA and one from a Scientific Instrument Company. I chose to not take the CIA job as the other one had the effect of fostering a lot of research for the better for people as they served both industry, research and medical fields.
If you can arrange to get training in a field that happens to interest you or what knowledge will transfer to civilian life you can get great training worth a lot of money in the future.
