I am 17 and a high school senior and I want to have a career in federal law enforcement. I want to enlist in the navy, air force or coast guard. I have a difficult time between special ops and military police which would best help me for my future career. What military occupation would best help me?First, let me say thank you for choosing to serve us as a military professional! Now, you do have lots of options (I'm a military wife, mom and daughter...BTW). I have two sons who are AF cops. One guards high security nuclear facilities which requires a VERY clean record so...if this interests you, you better be a good kid. Ha! It requires a high security and PRP (Personal Reliability Program, "I'm not a criminal and never will be") security clearance which must be mainatined so...no antics there. My other son is a post cop. he patrols the base just as would any civilian law officer in any county or state anywhere. But this is AF. The AF provides "cop" training for the Marines and the Navy at their post in Lackland AFB/Texas. I'm not sure about the Army. Sp[ecial op's are small bands of specailized forces which concentrate on things such as enemy infiltration, guarding high security targets and locations, capture tactics and other more detailed military maneuvers. Each branch has its own version. While the feds do require a degree, military service is highly considered. You may also want to look into the federal air marshall's program too. You'll guard planes while in flight. Your best bet is to hit a few links on all military branches and then, when you can ( I see you're only 17) speak to each recruiter. You can also go to the federal website called www.usajobs.com. They have federal employment listings there which will have the requirements per job...etc. Below is a site which is local for me but has tons of links and may be helpful too. But look into military sites too, ok? Good luck!

to be an agent you need a 4 year degree at LEAST. military experience does help but will not guarantee you a job. I am a Criminal Justice major, the going for a masters in homeland security. I am in ROTC now and trying to get into OSI but it is pretty hard considering they only take about 20 people a year. All that still does not guarantee me a job in federal law enforcement but only makes me competitive. I do not speak any other languages, nor do i have a law degree. Look into what it takes to be a federal agent, or a special forces operator and decide if thats what you want out of life. What military occupation would best help me?I am 99% sure that all the Federal Law Enforcement groups require a 4 year degree, but military expeirence is always a plus. Do what your going to enjoy, I know the Coast Guard is opening up a Maritime Enforcement rating. Talk to the recruiters and go with what you like bestWhat military occupation would best help me?
For 99% of federal law enforcement jobs you need a college degree.
