Does it give your opinion validity in political discussions, if you have been/ are a member of the military? Is being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society? No being in, or having been in, the military does not give validity to opinions on anything that isn't otherwise military related.
@Mike: Putting one's life on the line doesn't make their opinion any more or less credible. Military folk are like everyone else, just usually better armed.
@I'm out to get you: Many? In relation to what? Many is a gross overstatement... very few military members (if any, as I'm quite certain you can't) avoid prison through military service.
@Donald: I know guys who never left the States, what did they learn about the "real world?"
@Bush's Watch: You're mom stopped blowing me just long enough to ask me to tell you that you're being an obnoxious little prick again. She said she's warned you about that before, and that you, "better mind your manners, Mister." She said something else too, but I couldn't make out what it was through all the gurgling noises. Is being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society?
It depends. If the discussion is related to anything military theyre is a good chance that the military person knows what he is talking about.
Another thing to remember is that former military has an extra amount of credibility based on his/her willingness to 'put their life on the line.'Is being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society?People who have served in the Military have learned far more about the real world than people who have never served in the Military.
Therefore people who have served in the Military know far more about how to handle our problems than people who never served in the Military.
All military branches are not the same. However, people do give a nod to our veterans. We integrate back into a civil society once our service is over. I do not think it's an either-or situation.
.Is being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society? There is nothing special about folks who go into the military. The requirements for entry are so minimal that only severe health risks and those with 3rd grade education and below are rejected. Is being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society?
If the role of the military is to protect the nation as a whole, it merits a higher appreciation.
Only on issues about the militaryIs being a member of the Military more important than being a member of Civil Society?
No.
The military is OK for those who have no other prospects in life.
I think so, if the subject is patriotism or war.
No.
Serving in the Military does not necessarily make one a better American. Many who served in the military only did so to avoid prison time.
I don't see how selling your soul to the government gives you some kind of trump card in any discussion... but that's just me.
