A couple of things he wanted on the chopping block were:
1. Cuts in military health care spending
2. Reducing number of flag officers
3. Finally, he wanted the Navy/Marines to stop complaining about their shortfall of 100 aircraft when they already have hundreds of others of all types. Also, he wanted the Navy to realize that they already are bigger than the next thirteen navies combined, 11 of which are our allies. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?Hell, cut ALL OF THE "PORK" from the budget.
Some of it that is attached to the DoD budget has NOTHING to do with the military.
Removing the "Pork" this year alone would have saved in the neighbor of 716 million dollars.
Hell, the Navy wasted around 100 million over the past 6 years just doing all the crap that led up to changing some of their uniforms. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?
The last thing we should do is cut services for our military men and women. If anything things like their pay and their health care coverage should increase.
I'd be fine with reducing flag officers and, chaplains for that matter.
I read an article about our current methods of "delivering" nuclear bombs to their intended targets. We currently have 3 different options: by long range missile, by submarine, and by dropping them from bombers. If we eliminate one of those so we only have 2 ways of blowing our enemies to smithereens, we'll save billions of dollars. That seems like the most rational thing in the world to me. I don't know how many other practical cuts like that we can make, but I'm sure there are plenty of them. Aside from that we can do the obvious: end our wars and reduce the amount of troops and bases we have oversees. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?I would free pay increases to the non-combat and non-high skill jobs. Cooks, Admin types, Supply and all the really cushy jobs should have their pay frozen. Special Forces, Linguists, EOD, Combat Arms, Medical etc. should get pay increases and the money saved can go back to the taxpayer.
There's no reason why a box kicker should make roughly the same as a MARSOC operator or a Navy EOD tech, or an Army Farsi linguist. They get additional pay, but it's not much compared to what they would make as a civilian without the annoying parts of military life.
Cut into military humanitarian operations. All the civil affair guys will strongly disagree but i think we all know when the military gets too deep into giving out hand outs it turns into a huge waste every time.
I actually talked to a guy who talked to Gates for a while on a plane ride and that's exactly what he wants to cut out. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?Keep the amphibious assault ships which will have over 40% of the navy's F-35s and cut the number of aircraft carrier battle groups from 11 to 4. eliminate the air force and transfer the bombers and support craft to the air national guard which has it's own aircraft including the F-35. Eliminate the U.S. presence in Europe. The guys are too far from the nearest bad guys. Take the marines out of Japan. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?
Rather than cutting a particular program, I would make cuts across the board. Cut a little off everything. We have a military that could defeat every other military in the world combined. I think it a bit ridiculous.
when his fat azz has a service linked injury then watch how fast he does not want to cut medical. IMHO they need to back the frig up and find other places to cut costs...............
as for the rest of your statement then of course what do you expect from this government..........there is MUCH worse to come. What programs could be cut to reduce our enormous military spending?
I'd be very much in favor of sacking a bunch of general and flag officers.
They are very expensive and I just don't see how we need as many as we have.
The military is 'over-managed' in mho.......
Lets cut the:
Department of energy
Dept of education
HUD
EPA
IRS
cut all entitlements by 50%
cut the civilian contractors getting paid 200k for a job that a private can do.
Nuke the rest of the ************* world then we won't have to worry about defending from an attack from any other country.
*get rid of ALL dress uniforms. you dont work in them, you dont deploy in them, you dont go to war in them: the whole point of hte military is to go to war, why are we wasting money on something not related to that?
*get rid of ALL PR positions: that marine standing next to whatever monument or beside the presidents plane in a dress uniform isnt protecting anything, isnt contributing anything, and is wasting both money and manpower
*stop using the military to respond to national disasters in other countries: thats not our problem, and if they cant take care of themselves then (not to sound harsh) its called darwinism
*get rid of all "morale" programs on the bigger FOBs/COBs. they dont need a new dfac when their old one is working, they dont need a bunch of decorations, and they dont need "latin dance night". the REAL troops who are on the smaller FOBs and PBs, the oens who actually see combat instead of staying on base their whole deployment, do just fine with a barely standing DFAC, a gym, and about 1 computer per every 50 soldiers...if we can live witht hat, then fobbits can live with it too.
*make pay based on MOS and position. a paperpusher does not deserve to make as much as an infantryman of equal rank and TIS.
*get rid of as many flag officers as possible
*stop putting money into advertising. if someone wants to join,t hey'll go to the recruiter. if not, then no amount of pens or stickers or commercials is going to change their mind.
*last i checked tehres no terrorists on the open seas...so downgrade the navy to just what is absolutely needed. same for the air force.
*get rid of KBR- we have personel in MOSs for everything that they do.
*lift the EOF and ROE guidelines. it will cost less to allow us to fight this war the way it needs to be fought, not the way that makes politicians smile when they see it on a TV.
*im all for the 1st amendment so im not gonna say "keep reporters out"...but stop doing anything for them. if they want to get in the way, they can hire their own security and get their own vehicles.
