How can I determine the likely military rank of a character in a book I'm writing?

I have several characters in my story who are military and want to make sure that their ranks are consistent with the amount of time they've served. So far the characters have been officers in the Air Force and the Marines but I would like information that covers all branches for both officers and enlisted.How can I determine the likely military rank of a character in a book I'm writing?This site has the legal requirements chart for time in service (how long a military person has been in) and time in grade (how long they have held their particular rank) before they are eligible for promotion.

01 - 2nd Lieutenant
