The family decides where a veteran is buried. They can be buried at Arlington if they meet the requirements or receive a military funeral at a private or national cemetery. Thanks for asking this. I've been wanting to know for a long while but always forgot to ask. And there are 2 presidents buried there. Taft and Kennedy, I believe.How does the military determine who will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery?It is not limited to those who died in combat, purple heart recipients are also eligible.



Also, anyone who received a Silver Star, Distinguished Service Cross, or the Medal of Honor may choose to be buried at Arlington.

Arlington has standards of who can be buried there :



IE: killed in combat, serving senator, congressmen, were awarded at least a silver star if a veteran.



But your buried where your family request you be buried.



If the family request Arlington and you meet the standards, then you can be buried there.
