I am a 33 y/o Firefighter and I have no prior military. With wife and 2 kids I am thinking about the reserves. I am physically fit and have a bachelor degree. Any suggestions on branch and MOS is appreciated. ThanksWhat military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?Air force reserves
You will be too old for anything elseWhat military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?
Depends largely on what you are interested in doing and what you are looking to get out of your experience...
Some jobs you can do in all branches
Some only in a couple of branches
And some only in one branch
I would look into the Guard (both Army and Air) also. The Guard tends to offer better benefits (state benefits along with the federal).
Edit:
*sigh*
People...he SAID..pretty freaking clearly..he is looking at the Reserves!!!! NOT active duty
And as a Firefighter, at 33 yo and probably 6-10 years experience, he is probably pulling down in pay what I do as a Major in the ArmyWhat military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?Honestly if I was you, I'd go either Army or Navy active duty as an officer. You need a bachelor's degree to be an officer, which you have. You can also qualify for family housing where your rent, insurances, food and everything is all covered at the expense of the US government. You'd just pocket your pay. Your wife and kids would receive the best medical care there is to offer. Reserves doesn't really offer much, you'd get like $200 a month max because you'd only be an E-3 or so. Officers also don't see much combat, depending on where you specialize in.What military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?
Active duty Army - 42
Army Reserves - 42
Army National Guard - 42
Air Force Reserve - 34
Air National guard - 34
Active duty Navy - 34
Navy Reserves - 39
Well, these are the ones you are qualified for based on your age. I am sorry to say that I cannot be more help than that, since I have no military experience. Hopefully, you can narrow it down some from there. What military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?To be quite frank the only branch you can join is the army for active duty unless you can get to Navy basic BEFORE your 34th birthday. You are too old to enlist anywhere else. You can still get into the Navy, Army, and Air Force reserves.
The "Best" MOS is a matter of opinion.
Good luck. What military reserve branch and MOS is best for 33 y/o guy with wife and kids?
